Quoting from a mildly amusing show, but had too many references to “An Alternative Lifestyle”...
I love the 80's!
The best of the best...
I would have to put the Boys in Yellow and Black in the forefront.
I actually had a chance to work with Michael Sweet on his video "Real" both He and his Wife Kylie, are awesome people of God!
If you would ever like to hear about the experience I would love to share it with you all to Mike and Kylie's honor.
Since Stryper is really in their own category, I would count down this way...
#1. STRYKEN...sooo kidding...
1. Mastedon (Dino and John Elephante are the Lennon and McCartney of Christian Music as far as I am concerned)
2. Rez Band
3. (And I can't believe no one mentioned them) Idle Cure
4. Prodigal, Great Rock Band, not metal but great band
5. Holy Soldier
6. Allies (Their older stuff before Carlisle's Butterfly Wusses) jk...sort of...
7. JERUSALEM
8. Daniel Band
9. Kansas / AD
10. Bride (Preferably Kinetic Faith)
Man I gota put these in, Barnabas (Nancy Jo-mann has one of the greatest chick rock voices I have ever heard), Servant and also another one I haven't seen, Sweet Comfort Band ... NOT THE DISCO STUFF.. Hearts of Fire, The Cutting Edge(Awesome Album) and Perfect Timming. Giant, 77's
Honorable Mention...
Shout/Tamplin , Liaison, White Heart, The Alarm, U2 (Stuff Before Joshua Tree), Halo, Kings X and Cowboys, The Herd, The Brave (They are actually early 90's but they Hair Rocked...
And anything sung by Wil Shatner, He is so bad, He's Good.

My favourite Classic band would be Petra. They are the ones, after Larry Norman, that paved the way for everybody else. Aside from that, God used them to prevent me from ending my life several times in my 20's. Petra and Whiteheart were used mightily of God in my life. I do hope to hear some of them as well.
I just found Reign Radio. Normally I listed to The Prodigal Radio online but they have streaming issues a lot. I try them first but if that fails, I can come here now.
God bless all.

Yes, Petra
the lyrics are very in-depth. Stryper is also a favourite.."Calling on you" was the first I came across on television and I said to myself, "Rocking for the Rock!"
God bless us all!

That is soooo true!
The lead singer needs a lot of prayer. He is planning on making an album that totally denounces every song from the first album. I am not sure on all the details but I read a lot of stuff on the net about it. It really is sad.

5) Shout (both albums)
6) Saint (Too Late For Living)
7) Rage of Angles
8) Guardian (Fire and Love and the 3rd which I cant remember off hand! lol)
9) Holy Soldier (both)
10)Whitecross (all)
11) Zion (Thunder from the Mountain)
12) Messiah Prophet (Master of the Metal)
Just love it all!!!

I can't believe that I restricted myself by only acknowledging 3 bands from the 80's. Well, here's my 10 choices (anyway, this is how I feel today)...
!. Whitecross (My No.1, no matter which decade or which guitar player.. although Rex is unbelievable!)
2. REZ (I moved REZ up and Bride down, only 'cuz Snakes and Scarecrow Messiah were 90's CDs..Bride
would probably be #2 on my 90's best bands list.. behind only Whitecross).
3. Stryper
4. Petra (You're right Fender... they were good no matter who the singer was)
5. Phil Keaggy (One of the best guitar players I've ever heard and a diffinite hall of famer)
6. Steve Camp ( I remember when Camp was on TV singing some of his songs in the 80's when I was
thirsting for some 'Jesus Rock' ! God Bless, Steve Camp... and the rest on my list for feeding
me!)
7. Dion (Yep! the same ole' time rock & roller who sang Runaround Sue! He had at least 7 Christian albums.
His last CD 'Velvet and Steel ', came out in 1986.. the rest came on casettes.. very rare!)
8. Steve Taylor
9. White Heart
10. Guardian
These are the artists that I know from the 80's. Groups like Bloodgood, The Daniel Band, Angelica, Holy Soldier, etc. etc... I can't really say anything about them, when I don't have music by them. I'd like to change that, though.
I considered The Choir, Russ Taff, Larry Norman, Mastedon, Randy Stonehill, Eddi DeGarmo, Keith Green, and Mylon and Broken Heart for my list. I like Barren Cross a lot, but they would be on my 90's list 'cuz of their Rattle Your Cage CD... that's when I began to like Barren Cross. That CD has gotta be rare... I barely got my hands on it before they discontinued it. It's a shame.

Without a doubt, every band takes a backseat to the band who started the hard rock/metal genre: Resurrection band! Other favs include: Saint, Barren Cross, Bloodgood, Whitecross, Sacred Warrior, Deiverance, Venbgeance Rising, Stryper and Guardian, although I know some of those bands were more in the 90s.
