I would have to say Stryper for #1 and then maybe Holy Soldier , The Brave, Galactic Cowboys or King's X. But then again Sandi Patti came and Rocked out of nowhere, kind of a thinking mans metal--it rocked hard!!!

I'd say Stryper had to be #1, followed by GC (Galactic Cowboys) and Holy Soldier

metalheaddave, Sandi Patti was a close fourth for me, but I couldn't discount the hard rockin harmonies of Glad!

By far, the best Christian band of the '80 (and all time) is Daniel Band from Ontario, Canada!

Next, for me, is Resurrection Band.

Greetings,

I'm just a pup at 25 I guess.  The only christian metal band I had heard of in the 80's was Stryper.  The only reason I had even heard of Stryper was because in 6th grade during a lyp synch competition--serious stuff when your 12 and 13-- some kids swapped what the teachers said they could play with "To Hell with the Devil"  Oh let me tell you there was some suspensions to be had that day.  Nowadays the parents of the rest of the children would've probably sued for religous harassment or something.

So Stryper is my #1.  #2 would have to be Kings X, though I'm sorry to hear the lead singer recently renounced Christianity (maybe I heard wrong let me know if I did),  #3 would have to be Daniel Amos (Horrendous Disc) which I just heard for the first time about 3 weeks ago.

Back in the 80's I hadn't even heard of most of the afformentioned bands. But the ones I did listen to and bought their albums were:
1) Stryper
2) Daniel Band
3) Whitecross
4) Idle Cure
5) Shout

Today, I would have to add such bands as:
1) Guardian (Early stuff)
2) Bride
3) Barnabas
4) Joshua
5) Leviticus
6) Saint

Stryper back on tour.  Very cool.  If Bride can't tour by then, Disciple would be a good match for them.  If you haven't heard their new one, it's called BACK AGAIN and is their best yet!  Check them out at disciplerocks.com

Ressurection Band (or rez band or rez - whatever) definitely is worthy of mention in any list.

I was extremely fond of Steve Taylor's music - and while she may not be exactly what this forum is about, Sheila Walsh. Especially her early stuff (Future Eyes, War of Love, etc.)
